This showstopper Deco dreamboat is giving us visions of eternal love and happiness. It’s clear why the slogan - “a diamond is forever” - rings so true when you look deep into her 1.65cts of immensely shiny, sparkling wonder.
It rings even more true when you think about how the practice of martial engagement has been around for quite some time. The origin of the European engagement tradition comes from Jewish laws outlined in the Torah. An agreement to be married (called erusin) was required before the marriage ceremony (called chupa), or else the marriage would be considered immoral. The tradition was adopted by the Greeks and Romans, and subsequently evolved into the common practice we know today.
While early Jewish practice used a literal contract between the two engaged parties to memorialize marriage, the Romans used a verbal promise, sealed with the gift of a ring to symbolize the agreement. Romans gave two rings to their betrothed: gold to be worn in public, and iron for an at home ring that wouldn’t be ruined by house work.
But where do diamonds enter the picture? Diamond engagement rings have waxed and waned in popularity ever since gemcutters mastered the diamond craft. During the 1930s, only 10% of engagement rings given in the United States were diamond, and in fact the trend of even giving a ring at all was falling out of fashion with the younger generation. But in 1939 De Beers debuted the famous phrase harkening to forever, which reinforced the necessity of a diamond engagement ring.
We can think of nothing more fitting for this Deco ring, fabricated in luscious platinum perfection, with minimal metal work that will allow this gorgeous girl to shine for all of time.
