“He taught him to read in that vast book opened over our heads which they call heaven, and where God writes in azure with letters of diamonds.” - The Count of Monte Cristo
During the Georgian Era, a new trend emerged out of France; rings that featured lovely blue enamel with dazzling diamonds set within. Bagues au Firmament, or Rings of the Heavens, were reminiscent of the night sky with deep hues and contrasting sparkling stars. Marie Antoinette was known to wear her own Bague de Firmament almost everyday, its opulence and beauty fitting for Versailles.
This 18th century French Bague au Firmament is indeed heavenly. Thirteen old cut diamonds are set in silver against the backdrop of a dark blue enamel. A scalloped edge crafted out of gold frames the face of the ring with a elongated octagonal shape. We think this celestial inspired antique piece is a collector’s dream come true.
