This intricate ring is regal and sublime, with fanciful detailing and three gorgeous diamonds. 

She hails from the Retro Era, which took place in the early to mid 20th century. Design eras are always named later by scholars and historians. This means that when the era is happening, it doesn’t yet have its name—people just think of it as contemporary design!

While it’s hard to trace the first instance that “Retro” was used to refer to this era, we do know that the term Retro comes from the Latin word for “backward” or “behind”. This is because Retro Era jewelers intentionally sought inspiration from the past and revived some of the best design elements and added a contemporary twist. For example, this ring has bold, geometric designs that are reminiscent of Art Deco, while its floral elements may be borrowed from Art Nouveau and the Victorian Era. 

Of course, jewelers and designers of the Retro Era didn’t seek to replicate historical styles in a fully literal sense. They were looking to incorporate strong and beautiful aspects of the past, while imparting a sense of modernity that reflected the cultural and aesthetic values of the time period.
