**This Ring Can Be Resized.
This ring represents an incredible piece of history—a buttery 22K Victorian signet—to which we added a .96ctw rose cut diamond.
During the Victorian era, diamonds were rare and, therefore, very expensive. Most of the world’s diamonds hailed from either India or Brazil at the time. And while diamonds are “forever”, most diamond mines aren’t and the Victorian era deposits started to dwindle. Output flagged until a game-changing discovery in South Africa. But through most of the Victorian times, diamonds were mostly underutilized. When jewelers worked with diamonds, they made incredible pieces that were seen as status symbols as well as representations of strength and durability, given that the stone is exceptionally hard.
This ring started its existence without a diamond; a sleek, high-carat signet in all senses. The word signet comes from the Latin word for “sign” and has been a popular ring since ancient times, first among religious leaders and kings who used embellished signets as their mark. Some signet stamps worked in the same way as a signature today, and could be binding in contractual agreements. Victorians loved this form of identification and self expression. Many people, both men and women, possessed this kind of adornment.
This ring has lived much life, gaining deep wisdom. We gave her a glinting, all-seeing eye to represent that omnipotent edge. An ode to the resiliency and timelessness of the past; the ultimate cross-decade collaboration.
