We love a romantic Victorian pearl. These pretty charms were recovered from an antique broach and combined with the cutest beaded huggie hoops.
Pearls tend to remind us of Poseidon’s palace, called Ægea according to Greek mythology. His palace was said to be bright gold with gleaming domes and extravagant decor. Even the lush sandy pathways were littered with jewels and, of course, pearls.
Freshwater pearls are thought to bring love, money, protection, and luck. They give wisdom through experience and quicken the laws of karma. Most pearls in vintage jewelry are blister pearls, meaning that they occur naturally when a piece of sand or shell infiltrates a mollusk. Those wayward fragments get covered in “nacre” for about 10 years—and viola! The debris becomes a posh pearl through the magic of nature.
During the 1800s nearly all pearls were found in rivers and came in all sorts of uneven and interesting shapes. That’s why the symmetry of these little pearls are one-of-kind. The polished boho vibes are perfect for a pearl lover or someone who’s looking for a swimmingly cool addition to groovy collection.
