When humans figured out how to use metal about 9,000 years ago, it forged a pathway to modern times and spurred an advancement in everything from adornment and agriculture to transportation and tools.
Thin spools of precious metal were often woven into chains, which were worn both as a social signal to demonstrate wealth and a form of payment. Chain links were sometimes used as currency, with small rings snipped off and used for payment. As technology advanced, so too did chain making methods. By the modern era, humans had gained the ability to make really exquisite chains.
In the early 1800s, chains were often draped over the shoulders and pinned at the waist. Many had loops to attach watches or lorgnettes. Over the course of the Era, chains became slightly shorter and were nearly always worn around the neck.
This wonderful modern babe is 20 inches of perfection in 18K white and yellow gold. An interesting yet understated take on the ubiquitous fine chain.
