Pink sapphires are a special kind of wonder.  But a spectacular, vibrant stone like this one is almost otherwordly!

The durability and hardness of a sapphire is second only to a diamond and the luster is unmatched. Since the stone is so hard, stone cutters have the enviable task of getting to cut these rocks with intense faceting and crisp edges. But it’s necessary as expert stonecutting unlocks the incredible hues of pink sapphires.

Pink sapphires most often hail from Sri Lanka or Madagascar. Sri Lanka has mined pink sapphire across the island for thousands of years. Probably the most famous kind of pink sapphires—the padparadscha—comes from the Sinhalese word for lotus blossom. On the other hand, Madagascar much more recently made a name for itself in the world of pink sapphires. The gem was found on that southwest portion of the island in 1998 in a town of 40 people (there are now tens of thousands of residents in that same town thanks to “sapphire fever”). The similar quality of pink sapphire on these two islands make sense considering that eons ago Madagascar and Sri Lanka were neighbors though they are now nearly 3,000 miles apart.

This stone is remarkable. Sometimes sapphires are heated or chemically treated to enhance their color. But not this baby - she is au naturel. Straight from the Earth and eager to adorn your finger with all 1.78cts, and set in the butteriest 22K custom gold band.
