The moon. That mystical, magical, playful heavenly body. The moon, above all else, represents an innate femininity and intuition.  The moon is also associated with emotional balance. The moon dictates the tides after all. The fluid, cyclical shift of the ocean day after day after day.

This awesome piece of Leland Blue glass has the divine, mysterious pair of faces etched onto her surface. Haunting and comforting, these visages are so masterfully crafted and beautiful.

Leland Blue is a man-made stone created as a by-product of iron smelting. The name is derived from Leland, Michigan—the place that has the highest quantity of this amazing substance. Its beauty is without question and its rarity is well known. But what we love as always is the story behind the stone. In the 1800’s, the blast furnace method was primarily used to smelt iron ore, a process that takes the impurities out of the ore and leaves you with a higher quantity of metal. The impurities include minerals, rock, and sand. Manufacturers thought that these impurities were simply useless waste. But over time the stuff began to oxidize. Creatives and artists in the area realized that when you melt down this “waste”, a gorgeous material is made.

The particular type of iron smelting that makes Leland Blue ended in the late 19th century, meaning it is no longer actively produced. Collectors can go wild over special pieces and we think this one gives us a lot to write home about. We gave her luxurious chocolate diamonds in all four cardinal directions and set her in our perfect custom setting.
