Many of the world’s most incredible sapphires are from Sri Lanka. Since sapphires have been known to Sri Lankans for thousands of years, its folklore is replete with incredible tales of this pretty blue stone.

According to one such story, a powerful yet evil king wore a phenomenal sapphire as the centerpiece of his impressive crown. The stone was known as the "Eye of Ravana” and was thought to convey supernatural powers unto its wearer, including strength and dominance.

He felt so invincible that, unfortunately, he abducted a woman named Sita. Her husband came to her rescue, kicking off a fearsome war. This husband was an interesting one. Legend has it that, with the help of a Monkey god, he defeated that sapphire-welding weirdo with an army of monkeys, ultimately shooting an arrow straight at the sapphire. This supposedly nullified the powers of that stone. We are on the fence about the accuracy given that sapphires are one of the hardest stones on Earth, second only to diamonds.

In Sri Lanka, sapphire blue has been known to represent invincibility and fortitude. This story and others are the embodiment of this association. We believe that this ring has her own special powers. She’s safe and sound, low and lovely, in our custom bezel setting in 18K gold.
