Point cuts are considered the first foray into diamond cutting. Prior to the point cut technique, diamonds were used in jewelry in their naturally formed shapes but even that was an uncommon choice. In the 14th century, polishing of the octahedral faces of the stone created smooth surfaces and a more desirable shape. Diamond cutting was born. By 1375, there was a guild of diamond polishers creating point cut stones working in Germany.

Point cuts were the predominant cut during the Middle Ages, but their unique beauty was valued well into the 1700s, despite the development of newer styles. This gorgeous Georgian Era ring features an antique point cut diamond center stone. The point cut and the accent rose cut diamonds are all set in silver, a common practice at the time as it was believed to make the stones appear larger. Each diamond is in a foil backed setting, giving their light reflection a classic Georgian sparkle. The shoulders are carved with beautiful detailing, culminating in an 18k yellow gold band.

We think this ring is a more than just a beautiful object- its a small piece of history, a carrier of generations of stories.
