Citrine is a happy-looking stone with a captivating history. Some ancient cultures believed that citrine could calm tempers, disperse anger and help the wearer achieve their goals.

Regarded as a talisman against evil as far back as ancient Rome, citrine is a variety of quartz. It has adorned jewelry, trinkets and weapons for thousands of years. Its name is derived from the Latin word for yellow, citrina. Throughout history, citrine was often referred to as the ‘money stone’ or ‘success stone’ since many believed it could bring prosperity. Citrine was first considered precious during the Hellenistic period in ancient Greece and the Romans liberally used it, especially for carving meaningful images.

This Art Nouveau ring features a 1.00ctw eye-catching, marquise-shaped citrine. But that is far from all this baby has going on. The gem is surrounded by lovely little rose-cut diamonds, too. But the arts and crafts aesthetic of Art Nouveau really comes out when you look at the elaborate shoulders and flower-studded band. Not only that, but the mixed metals and the centering of a semi-precious stone makes this a classic example of the era’s fine jewelry. Beauty and history in perfect harmony.
