It seems as though Aphrodite had it all. The Greek goddess of love, sex, fertility, and beauty was everyone’s favorite gorgeous heavenly being. She was born from sea foam, and we love the depiction of her rising from it from inside a shell. Legend has it that she was born with a smile on her face and was immediately deemed the most beautiful creature there was. She claimed any man’s heart that came in her path, both godly and mortal.

One mortal in particular was the apple of Aphrodite’s eye, Anchises. She wanted love IRL, so she transformed herself into a mortal. Dressed and perfumed as a human with the help of The Graces, she traveled to Anchises and confessed that her father had desired them to be married. They fell in love, and even had a couple of kiddos. One day, Aphrodite felt like she had to come clean and revealed her true self to Anchises. Another great love of Aphrodite was Adonis. Adonis was the most attractive young man the land and as soon as he was born Aphrodite had a prophecy of the babe he was going to become. She gave him to Persephone for safe keeping, but as soon as he was an adult and Aphrodite wanted him back, Persephone was not having it. Zeus declared that he could split the time between them, but in the end he chose Aphrodite, not only for her beauty, but her powerful loving abilities.

The Greeks chose the emerald to be devoted to Aphrodite. Not only was she born out of the green sea, not unlike a shimmering emerald, her fertility and connection to the springtime is reminiscent of the vibrant green of the stone. Emeralds are the gem that represent true love, and if we have learned anything about Aphrodite, it’s that she loved hard. Emeralds are also symbols of devotion, adoration, and connection- traits Aphrodite embodied more so than anyone. The perfect gemstone, for the perfect gal.
