In ancient times, on the Greek island of Crete, the Great Goddess was worshipped. She embodied nature, creation, motherhood, and the earth. Modern-day, she is now referred to as Mother Earth. By her side, she always kept her familiars to aid her in magic and protection. The Great Goddess’s familiars came in the form of snakes. These snakes symbolized birth and regeneration of the earth and were worshipped by the people of Crete.

Thousands of years later, snakes continued to be representation of rebirth, femininity, guardianship, and transformation. During the Victorian Era, snakes were especially adored with added symbolic notions of eternity and love. This beautiful Victorian snake ring was meticulously handcrafted out of rose gold sometime during the 19th century. Its body wraps around your finger and its tail rests gently against his cheek. A deep green emerald is set upon its head, another nod to nature while two old cut diamonds sparkle as the serpent’s eyes. It feels both familiar and exoctic, just as Mother Nature intended.
