The ancient Greeks believed that topaz possessed the power to increase your physical and mental strength. Both the Egyptians and Romans attributed the stone to their sun Gods, noting its essential power and beauty. Topaz occurs in nature in a full spectrum of colors, from vibrant blue to honey to crystal clear. But in the 1700’s, pink topazes were discovered and immediately beloved. And although that was centuries ago, we’d have to continue to agree that pink topaz may be the most regal of all.

This rings hails from the same time period in which pink topaz was coveted by many. Varieties of golden, red, orange, and pink topazes were found in Russia during the 18th century and royals were the first to benefit. The tsars claimed exclusive rights over the special hued stones, only lending them out to friends, family, and political partners. You had to be well connected to adorn yourself with a pink topaz such as this.

Another nod alluding to the fact that this ring’s original owner was of nobility are the ten dazzling diamonds surrounding the light pink topaz. Chunky mine cut gems that capture the light wonderfully are accented by a classic 19th century setting with golden split tapered shoulders. The back features a lovely inscription dating to 1814. We love this ring for not only its rich color story, but its rich history as well.
