As one of the oldest known gemstones, carnelian is surrounded by folklore and myth. The stone was often used as a talisman and can be found in pieces dating back to 1800 BC. It is believed to be one of the luckiest stones and was often worn during battle for protection. Unlike traditional carnelian, this stone was dyed to an onyx hue, but the red and orange carnelian undertones shine through.

According to an ancient proverb, "No man who wore a carnelian was ever found in a collapsed house or beneath a fallen wall." Or, might we add, improperly accessorized.
