Don't be fooled by these rocks. Well, not by all of them. This pendant features synthetic rubies, which were all the rage after their debut at the 1900 Paris World's Fair. In World War I, ruby mines in Europe were nearly inaccessible so scientists cooked some up to help maintain the navigation systems powered by these red beauties. Improving the science behind synthetic rubies made them even more accessible and affordable, and they quickly became a popular alternative to the real thing. The diamonds, however, are not from the block.
