We love engagement ring trends, especially ones that are close to 200 years old. While it was not standard practice to give an engagement ring upon proposal at this point in history, it was not uncommon for two lovers to exchange gifts before their official wedding. A popular motif for such gifts were rings featuring two hearts side by side.

This magnificent early Georgian ring is one of those symbolic double heart betrothal rings. Two twin flaming hearts set in silver and gold rest next to one another. Each heart represents a person in the couple, and their commitment to always staying by their side. Two small sapphires are above each heart representing the eternal passionate flame they have for each other.

We love the dual metal tone, and the handmade nature of this ring making it a little quirky and completely one of a kind. Jane Austen wrote in her novel, Persuasion, “There could have been no two hearts more open, no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison.” Could she have been inspired by this very ring?
