We consider February babies lucky since they get to claim amethyst as their birthstone. It often seems like a less traditional choice than some other precious gemstones, but we love the cheerfulness and youth that the juicy color of a well cut amethyst can inspire. It’s a fun stone that can be quite beautiful when called upon.

Amethyst has a Greek mythological story behind its inception into the world. There once was a mortal woman named Amethystos who had the worst day in the history of bad days. She stumbled upon a trap that the Dionysus, the Greek God of of wine, had set in a drunken rage. He was trying to attack some men who had insulted him, but instead poor Amethystos met Dionysus’s tigers. Luckily, she had been on her way to pay tribute to the Goddess Artemis who witnessed the impending doom. While Artemis could not technically save Amethystos, she was able to turn her into a crystal instead. Full of regret for his intoxicated mistake, Dionysus poured his beloved wine over the white crystal, forever staining it a beautiful purple. The gem created was named after the girl it once was, amethyst.

Amethyst is used as an agent to keep a cool demeanor and stay level headed.  It’s allegedly even used to reduce stress! This gorgeous amethyst ring was made 200 years ago during the Georgian period, when every piece of jewelry was handmade and unique. The vibrant purple center stone is surrounded by fourteen natural pearls. A textured gold setting adds the sweetest details to this ring, and little white diamonds to add that touch of refinement. All the elements working together to accomplish the balancing act of boldness and sophistication. She’s a true beauty.
