With its warm autumnal hues and sunny disposition, November’s birthstone happens to be one of our favorites. Citrine is an ancient stone, with artifacts dating back to the Hellenistic Age (300 - 150 BC). The ancient Greeks used citrine for intaglios, most commonly of Demeter, the Goddess of Harvest. It garnered the moniker of the “merchant’s stone” or “success stone” when salesmen would carry the yellowy-orange gem with them for protection and good luck.

During the Georgian Era, citrine was commonly used along with a foiling technique. A thin slice of foil is placed behind the citrine, which enhances the color and reflection within. This beautiful early 19th century ring is a pristine example of a foiled citrine. It features an antique table cut stone pulling that illustrious foiled citron color. Two rose cut diamonds set in silver topped gold flank the center stone with a intricate gold shank. With this little piece of history, it’s easy to see why citrine is believed to radiate positive energy and brighten life.
