“I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out.” - Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Did you know the great poet, Elizabeth Barrett Browning was given a heart shaped engagement ring in 1864 by her poetic husband? A romantic gesture and talisman that inspired some of the most celebrated love poems in history.

Jewelry depicting one or two hearts became immensely popular as gifts exchanged between lovers during the 18th and 19th century. They were often used as betrothal rings, representing the love shared between the couple. Our favorite version of this antique trend are rings (because rings are inherently intimate) that display two hearts intertwined. The merging of the two is a very literal symbol of uniting two souls. Two hearts together as one.  Not unlike the infinity sign, two interlocking hearts show togetherness and continuous commitment.

This hallmarked double heart ring was made during the Late Georgian Era, when symbols of love abounded. Rubies were used to represent passion, while sapphires were used to embody fidelity. Set in 15k gold, with leaf shaped split shoulders, this is one of the sweetest rings we’ve come across. A perfect gift to your special someone, or a self-love reminder to yourself.
