It’s hard for us to think of anything more romantic than a posey ring. Posey, derived from the French “poésie” meaning poem, was a style of ring that became popular during the late Middle Ages, and remained in demand until the late 17th century. Sonnet like phrases were engraved onto the metal of the ring, typically in French, Latin, or Old English. They often were rooted in religious, friendly, or amorous themes.

In the 1300’s, posey rings were most often used for religious purposes honoring saints, or for showing loyalty to a certain king. These posey styles had their phrases engraved on the outside of the ring so all could see. But later in the trend, during the Georgian Era, posey styles became more romantic in nature. They were exchanged between lovers, and the words moved to the inside of the ring, making each note a little more personal and intended just for them. This is the type of poesy ring that pulls at our heartstrings. Secret notes forever inscribed on a ring so your intended will always have a reminder of your devotion nearby. A tiny, intimate love poem.

This ring hails from around 1800 when posey rings were still quite fashionable and beautifully sentimental. The inside is engraved with “Love in Thee” and was originally used as a love token, possibly to symbolize their union. Created out of a warm 22k yellow gold, this beauty is fully hallmarked, and ready to pass it’s message on to another. We think this would make a beautiful wedding band or gift.
