What You Should Know: Stones have been de-foiled. Repurposed from a Georgian Brooch.

A Georgian diamond and ruby pendant that makes you smile. The diamond in this piece is indisputably stunning- a rose cut in a collette setting in oxidized silver. But what really makes this necklace so joy inducing is the perfectly pinkish red ruby that sits right below that diamond. A color so pure and beautiful, it’s almost alive.

All of the world’s most valued and striking rubies are Burmese rubies- mined in the mountains of Myanmar. So of course there are several long and interesting legends about the origin of our favorite red gemstone. One states that a huge mythical serpent named Naga laid a large golden egg. An ill intended hunter came across this golden egg, and plucked it from its resting place to go sell it and make riches. While he was crossing the river back into the city, he fell and dropped the egg. The egg broke (as eggs do) and from it scattered millions of rubies, the first of their kind. What we love about these kinds of folklore stories is that the stones aren’t just rocks to these cultures. They are born from forces of life and power, and radiate with an undeniably energy. An energy you can feel in this pretty pendant.
