We love origin stories of gemstones. From ancient Greece to ancient India or Colombia, the stories of how the beautiful natural gems we adorn ourselves with came to be are endlessly interesting to us. One of the most unique and kind of actually really lovely stories we’ve heard is from the Aborigines of Australia (!!!) on how opals were first created.

The legend tells the story of when “The Creator” of the earth came down from the sky on a rainbow. Did he slide down it like an amusement park ride or was it more like a highway? We may never know. When his foot touched the ground sparkling and colorful opals were left in his footprints. The Creator had traveled to earth to teach humanity about the importance of peace, and so the opal became a symbol of friendship, hope, and the unity of all mankind.

No matter your beliefs, it’s nice to have a physical reminder of love and peace. Especially when it’s a gorgeous opal featured in an equally gorgeous antique ring. This incredible Art Nouveau ring has a simply pretty and hypnotic opal center stone. Framed in gold, the opal is in an unusual chunky cocktail silver setting with scrolling floral inspired metalwork. White diamond accents on each side of the center stone just add to the magic of this beauty. We love the detailing on this ring, and the peaceful vibes the fiery opal displays.
