The art nouveau period was short, but definitely sweet. Lasting about 20 years around the turn of the 20th century, the craftsmanship from this era is limited, but oh so pretty.

Meaning “new art” in French, the art nouveau movement resulted from artists basically being bored of the style of the Edwardian period. The jewelry was highly influenced by Japanese characteristics- the relationship with nature, and simplistic depiction. There was also an obvious straying away of creating a gemstone as the main focal point of a piece, and the overall design and settings stepped up to the limelight.

The female form is delicately snuck into almost all art nouveau pieces. Soft curves, free flowing lines, graceful movement, and a whole lot of romance were the fundamental themes. This diamond and ruby ring somehow immediately, but subtly reminds us of the powerful beauty of women. So feminine and whimsical, but attention grabbing and strong. This is a ring we can get behind.
